The design of Jack Shainman Gallery explores the synergy between art and architecture.
A dynamic, adaptive environment, it transforms with each artist’s needs, inviting visitors into immersive experiences.
More than a gallery, it is an ever-evolving ART–ARCHITECTURE LABORATORY, where each transformation offers insight and inspiration to shape future temporary structures.
The design of the Lafayette entrance is intended to create a modern atmosphere with clean lines and minimal decoration. This concept is the complete opposite of that of the building’s central space, the hall.
Three key elements have been incorporated into this small, double-height space. First, a floating wall with perfect square proportions; second, a large double-height wall perpendicular to the first, which serves as a support for large-format works; and third, a staircase.
These two exhibition walls conceal the third element: the staircase.
A continuous metal staircase connects to the upper level, becoming the main access point. Painted bright blue, the corporate colour of the Jack Shainman Gallery, it adds an unexpected touch to the monochrome room.
The double height allows for the elevation and entry of large pieces of art, which was a fundamental requirement of the project.
An exhibition space has been created right at the top of the stairs and elevator exit, covering the existing window and serving as a welcome to the installation. The geometry of the office and the small storage room creates a diagonal path leading directly to the Hall entrance.
